The sense to make changes that yield the best results

  • Impressive water savings from simple flow-restriction devices
  • Some 240 m3 recuperated, representing € 670 in annual savings
  • Gas/power savings on water heating equivalent to 1 800 kg CO2 per year

Gerstner is a catering company based in Vienna, Austria. It was the first caterer on this scale awarded an Austrian eco-label.

The company understood both the economic and promotional value of sustainability measures. As part of its resource-efficiency programme, Gerstner installed modern infrared sensors in the urinals and flow restrictors in their office premises, to reduce water consumption.

These water-saving devices restricted the flow rate to 10 litres per minute for showers and 6 litres per minute for wash basins.

Key results

The amount of water saved by these simple measures was impressive. In total, around 240 m3 per year was recuperated, which saved some € 670 annually.

The reduced water flow also meant less gas/power consumption for hot water, saving around 9 000 kWh, which is equivalent to € 360 or 1 800 kg CO2 per year.
