Carbon Trust offers interest free, unsecured loans for energy efficiency and renewable energy technology projects for companies in Wales. The loans are provided from £ 3 000  and £ 200 000 (~€ 224 000) in Wales.

A wide range of energy efficiency or renewable energy projects can be considered, providing they meet the on-site fossil fuel use saving requirement. Examples of the projects include:

• Building technologies (e.g. air conditioning, heating, heat recovery, lighting, building insulation, pipe insulation, solar thermal systems)
• Industrial process technologies (e.g. equipment, motors, compressed air, process heating, refrigeration, variable speed drives, process controls)
• Renewables (e.g. biomass, solar PV, solar thermal, wind turbines, heat pumps, hydroelectricity, biogas)

The size of the loan is based on the projected CO2 savings of a project, which are independently assessed by the Carbon Trust. Loans are designed such that in most cases the monthly energy cost savings should exceed the monthly repayments. Loans are repaid over one to four years in line with project payback periods.
