Machine tool management system
Information
A machine tool management system is used to collect data for efficient production planning. For example, it records the tools used to dliver specific orders and their operating condition at any given time. The monitoring is often done by RFIDs or barcodes.
An efficient tool management system is structured in the following manner: firstly, the core data for each tool and component (e.g. geometry, uses, operating and machine-use instructions, etc.); secondly, transaction data is collected (stock, storage location, procurement, internal and external material flow); and lastly, ensuring data is available at all relevant work stations. This general approach can be implemented through offline checklists or digitally.
Benefits for resource efficiency:
- All workers know where to find the right tools. That reduces machine downtime and energy consumption
- Production planning (software) is able to estimate and calculate lower storage capacity and improve order planning
- Better utilisation of tools and more efficient production
General benefits:
- Easy registration via electronic lists could be integrated into order planning and overall production
Depending on the project and the starting point, productivity and costs can be reduced by 10-20 %.
