More web-conferences cut CO2 emissions and costs for control technology firm
Information
Less effort, less cost when switching to web-conferences
- Policy of more web-conferences for field manager saves on flights, slashes carbon footprint
- 25 % less flights per year means savings of around € 55 152
TELE is a medium-sized manufacturing company and Austrian market leader in the field of monitoring and control technology. As part of a project called 'Company of the future', TELE explored sustainability measures it could employ to reduce resource consumption, save money and improve its overall environmental performance.
Traditionally, the company sent field managers to instal and check its control technology. But field operators also took flights to participate in meetings. TELE changed its policy requiring field staff to be be physically present at all meetings and now encourages web-conferences whenever possible. This measure saved around 383 000 kilometres in flights not taken, a 25 % decrease on the previous year.
Key results
Assuming that one kilometre of flying costs the company around € 0.14, the company saved at least € 55 152 in flight costs, not including pre-flight fixed costs and charges.
Interms of CO2 emission benefits; science suggests that it 'costs' 380 g of CO2 per flown kilometre per person. This leads to a saving of 145 540 kg of CO2.
