Colourful solutions

  • German painting and coating specialist explores new techniques to boost quality
  • Less faults translates into material and energy savings

The German paint and colour company Karl Wörwag Lack- und Farbenfabrik GmbH & Co KG produces high-quality coating materials. The company tried to develop a new way to apply paint while reducing the faulty coating ratio, energy, and the use of paint during the process.

An innovative process to apply coating foil on plastic components for the automotive industry was developed.

The paint foil has the same characteristics as an energy-intensive spray painting process. With the new method, the faulty coating ratios decrease to less than 5 %, even for critical surfaces. Ideally, the coating process is applied at the extrusion process so the coating foils will be joined with the components after cooling down.

Key results

With the new procedure introduced at the company, the volume of paint reaching its target (the component) is as high as 85 %, compared to only 50-70 % using standard methods.
