Smart waste handling for smart companies

  • Smart waste packing
  • Reduction of plastic bag usage and CO2 emissions
  • Reduction of waste volume

Elior Group is a catering company active in the contracted food and support services industry. It offers catering services to various business areas, including education, healthcare, travel and leisure.

Waste management is one of biggest cost areas for the company. To tackle this issue, Elior Group decided to invest in SmartPack, an automatic compacting receptacle that is similar in size and appearance to traditional waste bins, but at least 10 times more effective in managing waste. The smart pack automatically compacts waste based on the customer flow and does this directly at the source. It can be used anywhere in public areas, e.g. quick-service restaurants, malls, airports, schools, and colleges.

Such smart packing solutions guarantee savings in labour, waste hauling, and waste-bin liners. The compactors have proven to reduce plastic bag use by up to six times and cut CO2 emisions because the compactors can hold more, which means they need emptying much less often and fewer garbage truck rounds are required.

Key benefits

  • Safe/simple to operate
  • Require very little floor space
  • Reduced waste disposal costs
  • Improved business appearance and increased workplace safety
  • Saves labour and time, making operation more profitable
  • Marketing/advertising potential on the units

An investment of € 50 000 on small compactors located around five Elior-managed train stations in Europe was paid back within 18 months!
