The northeast of Mexico, like the rest of the country, is not free of earthquakes; however, these are infrequent and of low intensity. Zones in northeast Mexico are low-grade seismic compared to the south of Mexico and its western part. The earthquakes of natural origin in the northeast region are linked with cortical failures, very different from those that occur in the Mexican volcanic belt Also, there is seismicity induced by man’s activities such as  removal of material, mining, addition of fluids into the subsoil, emptying or filling dams, removal of hydrocarbons from deposits of oil and gas, detonation of explosives, nuclear tests, geological research, etc.
